How to Wear Color 101

Written by: Jennifer on April 27th, 2012

Everywhere you look you are seeing people wearing color, color and more color.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love color and nothing is more appealing than color in sunny South Florida, but there are right and wrong ways to successfully pull off the new color trend.  To ensure that you don’t veer down the path of a fashion “don’t” take a quick minute to review a few easy tips.

Neutral Ground

For the faint of heart you can always dip your toe in the color pool by pairing your brightest brights with any neutral.  I happen to love our VKOO chartreuse hooded sweater worn with beige or navy Avenue Montaigne skinnies.  Throw on a bright print scarf with some chartreuse in it and you will look right on trend.  A word of caution:   where ever you place the strongest color is where the eye gravitates so if you are built like Jennifer Lopez I suggest you stay far away from lime green pants!

Unicolor

The best way to wear the same color head to toe is to use varying shades of your favorite color.  Don’t try to be matchy-matchy, same-same.  It can read as Garanimals for Adults.  An example: pair turquoise Peace of Cloth pants, an aqua A’nue tank and an azure Duna sweater.  Three shades from the same family but not dead on matches.

Color Blocking

This is not for the faint of heart but can be oh-so chic when done successfully.  Try this:  Red Yoga Jeans, a royal blue silk blouse by Drew and bold coral jewelry.  Bold colors work well with other bold colors while soft pastels work best color blocked with other sorbet tones.  Be careful of problem pairings such as red and green (ho, ho, ho), yellow and black (too bumble bee) or orange and black (Hello Halloween).

Ok Fashionistas, your mission is to hit your closets and begin playing with this trend pronto.  You can always come visit us and we would love to help you interpret this fun look.  See you soon!

Runway To Real Way!!

Written by: Jennifer on April 25th, 2012

One of the latest trends on the fashion runways was athletic inspired apparel.  The fabric of choice was mesh.  To take this trend from runway to the real world many designers had to tone down the athletic inspiration and what was left were great new uses of the mesh fabrics.  Whether done printed in little snap front shirts from David Cline, in poncho and off the shoulder tops from JUDE or used in sophisticated twin sets from Gerry Weber, mesh is hot, hot, hot Barbara Katz and Suite 602 loved this perfect fabric for the long steamy South Florida summer and we know you will too!

Color, please!

Written by: Jennifer on March 21st, 2012

Look into my closet and you will see a sea of neutrals with black being the overwhelming majority.  Ugh.  I am CRAVING color.  Suddenly the dark clothing that felt so chic a month ago feels simply morbid.  I must infuse color into my wardrobe PRONTO.  Funny thing, I am not alone.  Every day customers come into Suite 602 and Barbara Katz and say that they need clothes but “no dark colors, please”.  The good news is Spring is filled with juicy and delicious colors.  Lemon yellow, aqua, coral, orange, turquoise and lime green are just a few of the color faves for Spring at Suite 602 and Barbara Katz.

Every day we are receiving fun and fashionable garments in yummy colors from lines such as JUDE, Michael Stars, Tolani, and Lafayette 148 that are sure to have you inspired.

So pack up the black and throw on color—you will look and feel amazing!

Printed Pants? Yes, you can!

Written by: Jennifer on March 7th, 2012

Who really needs another pair of blue jeans, black pants or khakis??  They are just so ho-hum and really not much fun to buy.  What is fun, new and sure to be a fresh addition to everyone’s closet are PRINTED PANTS.  Now, don’t be scared.  There are prints for everyone–even the print-a-phobes who insisted that they just can’t find a print that they like or look good in.  This Spring at Suite 602 and Barbara Katz, printed pants are edgy in Ikat printed cargos, funky in tribal print silk wide leg pants, lady-like in checks and dot prints and down-right wild in Missoni inspired zig-zags.  How fun!!!!!!!  Paired with pretty sweaters, jewel tone silk blouses or simple tees, just throw on a scarf you have a statement making outfit without any fuss.

Super chic—super simple!

Chiffon for Spring

Written by: Jennifer on February 23rd, 2012

Soft, pretty, printed silk chiffon tops are my recent obsession

Recently I was asked what looked the “newest” to me for Spring.  I didn’t even hesitate to think.  Soft, pretty, printed silk chiffon tops are my recent obsession.  Shorter and boxy, styled as a poncho, tailored like a soft blouse or cut as a more traditional tunic silhouette, sheer silk chiffon tops are perfect for anyone.  At Suite 602 and Barbara Katz we have options galore in this fabulous trend.  Beaded, dip dyed, graphic prints, animal and snake prints or soft florals, all “tastes” are covered and “print sensitive” ladies can all indulge in this fab look.  Even better, all body types can find the perfect shape to share in this trend.  Dressed up for a semi-formal affair or rocked with jeans, all ages and life styles will enjoy this style.

So, the next time you are thinking that your look needs some updating, come visit us and let us find your perfect new Spring look!

Charlotte Tarantola Sweaters Are IN

Written by: Jennifer on January 30th, 2012

About a year ago I saw a girl wearing the cutest and unique printed cardi and I just had to ask her who designed it.  She told me Charlotte Tarantola.  I knew I had to find this line and carry it in Suite 602.  It didn’t take long and next thing you know I was sitting in the Charlotte Tarantola pink showroom on a gold chair taking notes with a giant white and gold feather pen.  This line is so much fun!  Girly with a bit of edginess, classic lady with a bit of risk taker, Charlotte Tarantola sweaters appeal to nearly everyone.  Suite 602 recently received the start of the Spring Charlotte Tarantola collection and it is great!  My personal fav…the neon floral printed shrunken cardi with leopard trim, arms and back.  Fun, funky and original.

That is Charlotte Tarantola sweaters!!
